Dr. Dimosthenis Kiimetoglou

Specialist in Pediatric Traumatology and Orthopedics

Dr. Dimosthenis Kiimetoglou holds a Degree in Medicine and Surgery from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (2011) and is a Specialist in Orthopedic Surgery and Traumatology. From the very beginning of his career, he showed a strong vocation for Pediatric Traumatology, receiving specialized training at the University Maternal and Child Hospital of the Canary Islands, in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

International Training and Experience

During his training, he completed clinical fellowships at highly specialized centers with nationally and internationally renowned experts in Pediatric Pathology, both in Spain (such as Sant Joan de Déu Children’s Hospital, Barcelona) and in the United Kingdom (Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, Liverpool).

His objective: to broaden his knowledge of advanced surgical techniques and the respectful management of pediatric patients, achieving comprehensive training as a pediatric orthopedic traumatologist.

Clinical Approach

The specialist in Pediatric Traumatology and Orthopedics, working within a multidisciplinary team, provides a unique and personalized approach adapted to the needs of each child and their family. His responsibilities include:

  • Assessing appropriate growth and development.
  • Diagnosing and treating musculoskeletal disorders from birth through young adulthood.

Children need a close and empathetic physician, while families require clear explanations that address all their concerns.

Principles of Treatment

A pediatric orthopedic traumatologist must have:

  • A comprehensive understanding of neuromotor development.
  • Respect for growth timelines and for bone, muscle, tendon, and ligament structures, including growth plates.
  • The application of minimally invasive treatments that promote comfort for infants, children, and adolescents, minimizing the impact on their daily, social, school, and sports activities.

Diagnosis and Prevention

The specialist must be able to:

  • Identify conditions that only require monitoring or treatment with casts and orthoses.
  • Recognize situations that require early intervention to prevent or minimize long-term sequelae.
  • Stay up to date with the latest scientific evidence, applying the most recent techniques, advances, and materials, providing reassurance and confidence to both children and their families.
